Typically, recently some media recalled the fact that more than 163 million VNG ZingID accounts had their information leaked since 2018. At that time, a forum specializing in sharing, buying and selling leaked data called Raidforums.com, has offered for sale an advertised data package containing information on more than 163 million VNG ZingID accounts.
According to a VNG representative, previously, Zing ID was an account management system for VNG’s game products. Right in 2018, when Raidforums first announced the data package, the range of users actually affected by this incident was not large, only focusing on gaming customers and not affecting the products at all. other of VNG.

Also according to VNG, the number 163 million mentioned by Raidforums is only the number of “gaming accounts” created, not user data. One person can create and use multiple accounts at the same time, so the actual number of users and the number of gaming accounts are not the same. Furthermore, Raidforums’ data package only includes very basic information such as login name and login password, so the level of “damage” is not great.
On the contrary, attacks related to leaking information about bank account numbers and user identification documents will have a much higher level of impact, because They can directly cause users to lose money or have their identities faked to commit other fraudulent acts.
Recently, our country has frequently recorded cases of fake eTax mobile tax declaration applications… causing users to mistakenly install them, thereby taking control of their phones. and personal data. Or another risk that has emerged recently is deepfake attacks to trick users into transferring money to hackers.

In 2023, the Vietnam Cyber Security Situation Summary Report by Vietnam National Cyber Security Technology Company NCS recorded 13,900 cyber attacks on organizations , an increase of 9.5% compared to 2022, an average of 1,160 cases/month. In the context of everyone participating in digital transformation, from Government agencies to banks, financial institutions, etc., personal data and business data will continue to be the target of cybercriminals. .
In that context, Decree No. 13/2023/ND-CP of the Government on personal data protection officially takes effect from July 1/ 2023, aiming to effectively protect personal data in Vietnam, minimizing the risks and consequences of personal data violations.
With this Decree, people have more rights in managing personal data in the territory of Vietnam such as the right to know and be provided with information about activities. regarding data processing, the right to complain and the right to claim damages.
Along with the increasingly perfect legal basis, businesses’ information security awareness has also changed positively, along with security measures. User data protection is implemented, such as investing funds to build a higher level of security information system, coordinating with businesses providing professional security services to increase defense, build early intrusion detection and warning system, performing simulated attacks to continuously upgrade infrastructure to prevent sophisticated and complex tricks from data crime groups.
